Training sessions

The club runs various training and other more informal sessions for FCC members throughout the week.

These include:

 

Saturday 1pm Coffee Run
Join members and friends for a leisurely paddle to Studley Park, stop for a coffee and return.
Departs FCC most Saturdays at 1pm.  See eNews for details.
All existing and new members welcome to join – remember it is only 5km each way.
Session is free, but bring a few coins for your coffee.

 

Sunday Morning 10am -Zoli Sessions, Sprint Race, Time Trials
A little more formal but still fun training session run on most Sunday Mornings. These fast, fun and furious Sunday training sessions were started by Zoli Szigeti more than 40 years ago and are still introducing FCC members to the great time that can be had while learning the skills and gaining the fitness needed to race successfully (or not). They are a great way to burn off the over indulgence of a Saturday night with still time for a small sleep in. Best of all, the sessions are led by an experienced coach from FCC, the sessions are free for members and are structured so that you can truly work at your own pace.
Plan to be on the water at 9am for 9.15am start on Zoli's Strait.

From 2016 we are proposing to alternate the Zoli sessions with Sprint races and Time Trials, and are looking at earlier starts - proposing 9am.  Watch eNews for details.

 

Tuesday and Thursday Nights at 5.30pm
All FCC, INCC and members from other clubs are welcome to attend these sessions. 

Plan to be on the water at 5.30pm however start times can vary from 5:30pm to 5:45pm.

Tuesday nights are usually intervals (4-8 min on, 60-90 sec rest) to Dights and back.
Thursday night consists of sprints (100m to 500m) at Zolis straight. 
However the session format can vary from the above, depending on attendance and river conditions.

These sessions run all year round, the numbers participating vary from up to 20 in summer down to 2 on some dark winter nights.
Skill level required is flexible but at least intermediate is ideal, if in doubt come along and find out. 
It is usual for some paddlers to drop to the back of the pack on the Tuesday night Dights run and re-group when they can.
 
Attendance is casual with no formal membership or expected regular attendance.
Paddlers are welcome to turn up whenever they can.

There is a long tradition of these sessions going back at least 10 years. This is another excellent example of our two clubs working together. On the water please make yourself known to Rob (INCC), Simon (INCC), Chris (FCC) or whoever may be running the session.

Other Coaching/Training
The club is very fortunate to have a number of qualified coaches who are able to provide more formal coaching in groups and one-on-one throughout the week and on weekends. All these coaches are experienced and passionate about the sport, but beware this is often contagious!
