Thinking about giving canoeing a try for the first time? Fairfield Canoe Club's beginner courses provide a great introduction to canoeing. Our level Level 1 coaches have all completed Canoeing Victoria courses and teach you to paddle during our four-week beginner course.
FCC has a strong tradition in teaching people to paddle and runs beginner sessions throughout the year. Many of FCC members were introduced to the club and canoeing through these courses. Beginner sessions are a great way for people to learn the paddling basics in a safe, friendly and enjoyable environment and to discover the joys of paddling on the scenic Yarra. The beginner sessions are open to both male and female participants over ten years of age and run over four separate sessions on weekends (mostly Sundays). Many beginner paddlers eventually join in with the 10am Sunday training session and, if they wish to, compete in the many marathon races during the year.
FCC will provide the boats, lifejackets and paddles while you will need a change of clothes, sunscreen and enthusiasm. Kayaks are the most popular types of boats used at FCC during the beginner classes, but canoes are also available. A kayak can be seen in the left-hand photo; a kayak paddle has two blades. A canoe can be seen in the right-hand photo; a canoe paddle has one blade.

The beginners course is conducted monthly on Sunday mornings from 8am to 9.40am.
The four-week course costs $100 per person. Payment at our online shop confirms your attendance and booking.
Please note: Each course is limited to six participants. If the nominated class is full you will be unable to pay for the course.
