Geoff Baird

Geoff is the clubs Maintenance director. You may have seen Geoff hard at work installing our new FOB entry system.

When and why did you join the club
I joined in April 2020, defecting from INCC.

Any funny or unusual things that have happened to you at the club, or highlights.
I was recently paddling past Bellbird Park when I heard a very loud female scream from the Park. I stopped paddling and looked back, expecting to see someone being attacked. Instead the voice turned to singing. I assume what I first heard was an extreme clearing of the throat and lungs.

What do you hope to achieve in your BOM role
Initially my focus is on migrating the club from keys to electronic access. It is taking a little longer than expected, because the roller doors are old, heavy and slop around, making it hard to secure them electronically. I want to help FCC be the best paddle club in Australia.

Anything else you would like to mention?
I am a “mug” paddler. I took up paddling about 8 years ago because I couldn’t run any more (I did the Puffing Billy run for 30 years in row). I am happy paddling my TK1 – comfort ahead of speed.

During Covid-19, I continued paddling in line with the State Chief Health Officer’s Directions, but I also built a paddle bike i.e. a 3 wheel recumbent bike to “paddle” on land (see photo).
