A river frontage block of land was purchased in 1924. To enable the Club to pay for this land, as well as construct a “spacious Canoe Shed and Clubrooms with all modern appurtenances”, 450 Mortgage Debentures were sought.
“The builder’s estimate of cost of the Canoe Shed being only £130. The services of four builders have been volunteered, and the cost of the building is thus confined to cost of material only”
However, several unused debentures are in our archives hand tere is no record of how much money was actually raised through this initiative.
