COME DOWN FOR A SESSION AT FAIRFIELD CC WITH PETE GARGIULO AND THE
VSSA SQUAD
The Victorian Surf Sports Academy (VSSA) aims to provide a flexible training and mentoring program for Victorian surf sports and kayak athletes. Our goal is to establish Victoria as a force in elite surf sports and flat water sprint kayaking over the coming years leading up to the 2024 Olympics
About the VSSA Kayak Program
A key component of any elite sports program is an experienced, knowledgeable and effective coaching panel. We have recruited a range of coaches to provide the highest quality program for our athletes including:
Jon Ford (PhD) – former Australian Junior Kayak Team member and director of VSSA
Peter Gargiulo – former Australian Olympic Development coach and VSSA Head Coach
Jamo Porter – national elite ski paddler, multiple national SLSA medallist and VSSA program developer
Dave Ceddia – former Australian Kayak Team member and coach
Cameron McGill – former Australian Marathon Canoe Team Manager and Coach, 3 x world masters marathon medallist and VSSA Development Coach
Kevin Ball (PhD) – AFL Biomechanist and VSSA Research Director
Aaron Hamstead – VSSA Competition Manager
Coaches from Half Moon Bay and Avoca Kayak Club provide advise regarding the VSSA kayak program
Our program is purpose built, from the ground up, for Victorian athletes wanting to achieve at the highest level in surf sports and flatwater kayaking sprint national championships. We also draw information about program design from the best NSW and QLD kayak/surf sports clubs.
VSSA provides access to the best surf sports and kayak mentors in Australia (eg Loccy Tame) through a structured mentoring program, with support from a local mentor. This personalised advice and support is the key to athlete progression to the highest level.
Our aim is to attract sponsorship for VSSA athletes to assist with the costs of flatwater kayak sprint competition.
