Fairfield Canoe Club Today – One Hundred Years on
Our founding paddlers of 1919 would be proud of what they would find at 9 The Esplanade, Alphington should they paddle those 500 yards upstream from their first home at the Heidelberg Boathouse at Fairfield Park all those years ago.
FCC has weathered numerous floods, World War 2, the Great Depression and varying interest in the sport of canoeing/kayaking. Today we have a strong club of 300 members all of whom are shareholders in an Incorporated Co-Operative that is financially stable and housed in a first-rate Clubhouse.
A Club that has members ranging from school-age to x with y club boats for all to share. A Club that provides opportunities to pursue the full gamut of paddling endeavours, both competitive and social:
Sprint, Marathon, Canoe polo, White water, Dragon boating, Touring, Social, perhaps even a bit of ‘canoodling’?
This photographic exhibition is a tiny ‘snapshot ‘of 100 years of our Club History and clearly cannot capture all of the important events and achievements of its members, nor can it name or contain photographic images of the generations of FCC paddlers who contributed to make this great community of paddlers on the banks of the Yarra River at Alphington.
Photographs presented are all taken from the FCC Collection unless otherwise noted.
We trust you enjoy this display. Any correction of fact will be welcomed by the FCC Centenary History Group noted below.
