Red Cross Murray Marathon created - Fairfield Canoe Club

In December 1969 Mark Thornthwaite ran the first Murray Marathon for seven boats (ten paddlers).

December, 1970 was the first fully competitive major Red Cross Murray Marathon, the race continues today, although now held in November.

Fairfield Canoe Club members have enjoyed great success in this event both winning and creating records.

Fairfield Canoe Club owns its own clubhouse on private land. With boat storage at the club, fully equipped change rooms, a huge meeting area and direct access to the Yarra River, all your paddling needs are taken care of at the Fairfield Canoe Club.
